Victorian Life Sciences Computation Initiative (VLSCI) is a $100m Victorian Government initiative in partnership with The University of Melbourne (UOM) and the IBM Life Sciences Collaboratory, Melbourne, delivering high performance computing facilities and research support for Victorian Life Sciences researchers and their Australian and overseas collaborators. Other major stakeholders are key Victorian health and medical research institutions, Universities and public research organisations. The facility is now performing at 46 teraflops and includes the largest IBM Blue Gene installation devoted to Life Sciences in the Southern Hemisphere. By 2013 we will deliver petascale computing and intend to be one of the top 5 life science computation facilities in the world. A key aspect of the VLSCI is the Life Sciences Computation Centre (LSCC), operating from three hubs based in Melbourne’s Central (Parkville), South East (Clayton) and North (Bundoora) Precincts. Key research themes for the LSCC are computational biology, computational imaging and bioinformatics and experts in these fields are available to meet the skills gaps in research teams, build the necessary cross-disciplinary research collaborations and assist with scaling-up projects to make the most of the processing power being delivered. VLSCI conducts other training and outreach activities to develop and train current and future researchers in these emerging disciplines. Contact Details |
