Additional funding of $50 million has been provided to Bioplatforms Australia under the Super Science Future Industries Initiative announced in the 2009 Budget. Senator the Honorable Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research announced the investment as part of a $1.1 billion boost to scientific endeavours including astronomy, climate change, marine and life sciences, biotechnology and nanotechnology.

Bioplatforms Australia will use the additional funding to add to Australia’s ‘omics infrastructure and increase researcher access to state of the art technology. It seeks to partner with State Governments and institutions to maximise this investment and further promote national cohesiveness and integration across the Genomics, Proteomics, Metabolomics and Bioinformatics sectors.
