Director John de Jersey was until recently the Deputy Executive Dean of the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Sciences at The University of Queensland. After graduating with a PhD from The University of Queensland in biochemistry he lectured at the University of Sydney and undertook a postdoctoral research position at the Pennsylvania State University before returning to UQ to join the academic staff. Professor De Jersey is Emeritus Professor of Biochemistry at UQ and an Honorary Professor at Jilin University in China. His research focuses on protein chemistry and enzymology and currently includes an extensive study of the protein components of Australian snake venoms as potential human therapeutic agents. He has been actively involved in the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, including serving as President of the Society in 2001-2002, and is Secretary-General of the Federation of Asian and Oceanian Societies of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. |
