The Australian Bioinformatics Facility is governed by the Bioinformatics Management Group (BMG). The BMG’s principal roles is to provide advice to the ABF with respect to:
the development of the ABF’s Business Plan (“Bioinformatics Capability Plan”) for approval of the Board of BioPlatforms Australia.
the preparation of an annual report for the Board of BioPlatforms Australia which outlines progress in relation to the attainment of agreed key performance indicators.
Specifically, the BMG provides advice to the ABF on the following key tasks:
the strategic direction of the ABF in relation to the strategic intent of BioPlatforms Australia.
the review and update, on an annual basis, of -omics Platforms’ Work Service Programs.
how best to facilitate communication between the -omics Platforms and the ABF in relation to bioinformatics capabilities.
how best to foster collaboration across the -omics Platforms to maximise efficiency and minimise duplication of resources with respect to bioinformatics capability.
the promotion of ABF capabilities within the national and international arenas.
the identification of strategic opportunities (both national and international) to leverage additional bioinformatics funding to support the non-embedded and embedded activities.
maximising the benefits of collective bargaining strength for the purchase of infrastructure.
promoting the development of bioinformatics staff, through the design and implementation of cross platform strategies to enhance the bioinformaticians capability.
